about
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recorded live for Occupy Fort Lauderdale on Christmas Eve and Day, 2011, on the Fort Lauderdale City Hall Plaza (100 N. Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33301).

Dr. Bob wrote this 10/19/11 for the Occupy movement. It is a retread based upon Randy Newman's 1972 classic of the same name. Randy Newman's original song describes a white slave trader singing lies to free Africans about why they should get on board his slave ship and come to America where everything will be so wonderful for them. While Newman sings sarcastically of past racial slavery, Dr. Bob's retread sings truthfully about today’s economic slavery, making this new version a sarcastic spin on a sarcastic original.
All of the lyrics of Dr. Bob’s version are his own, except for the chorus which was drawn unchanged directly from Randy Newman’s original.

SAIL AWAY
In America we are raised on dreams
Work hard, play fair and you will see
Then why did all those companies
Do what they did to you and me
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
Go to school then university
Work 9 to 5, 5 days a week
Until one day you come to see
A pink slip change your reality
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
In America everyone is free
To fall down into poverty
You can work hard all day for a little pay
And never have any security
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
So, in America we still have a dream
That one day we’ll get back all the things
That matter the most of all to us
Like justice and equality
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
Sail away, sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean
To the Charleston Bay
