This song was originally performed live by Dr. Bob on November 11, 2011 in front of the Broward County Commissioners (Florida) regarding their attempt to pass an ordinance that would require a permit to perform freedom of speech on Broward County property. After hearing this song and lots of other feedback from the community, they voted against their own ordinance.

Backup vocals: the Occupy Fort Lauderdale Chorale Ensamble (JC, Guy Camarda, Denis Moore and John Iacovelli).

Main vocals: Dr. Bob.

lyrics

VOTE NO

Now the freedom of speech
Is oh so paramount
To creating and keeping
The kind of country we all want

And freedom is spontaneous
But this proposal’s an impediment
So vote no, vote no, vote no
Here we go

Vote no... VOTE NO
Vote no... VOTE NO
This proposal
Its really got to go... GOT TO GO
Oh we like you
And we love you
And we wanted you to know
VOTE NO
VOTE NO
VOTE NO

Now if we gotta ask permission
Every time we wanna talk
Well that’s not what
The first amendment’s all about

So this ain’t the kinda thing
We think that you should do
The ACLU says so
And so do all of us too

Vote no... VOTE NO
Vote no... VOTE NO
This proposal
Its really got to go... GOT TO GO
Oh we like you
And we love you
And we wanted you to know
VOTE NO
VOTE NO
VOTE NO
